Feeding My Family // Slow Mornings

As you have probably seen from this months series, there are a few “slow mornings” around our house. And even the ones I would dub “slow” you might not.  I mean there’s not much about four kids that is slow…

Friday, Saturday, and Sundays at our house our days we sleep in, watch television, cook a big breakfast, and lounge in our PJs till early to mid afternoon.  Fridays the “big boys” do not have preschool so it’s just me and the kids. We often make a big breakfast, and when we do I usually make extras to use throughout the next week. Today we made buttermilk pancakes and sausages. The boys were tickled, as it is a nice change from our on the go breakfasts.

Corban and Camper helped me make the pancakes and as you can see these boys are becoming quite adept in the kitchen.

I got this fabulous electric cast-iron skillet from my local buy nothing group! I remember the lady saying she was gifting it to me because she knew someday I’d be feeding large teenage boys and I would need to make things “like pancakes in mass quantity.” Who said they need to be teenagers to need mass quantities? I’m telling you these kids are bottomless pits. We made a large stack of pancakes and I’ll freeze them to use throughout the week. They may not last that long though.

Can you tell me like we like our slow mornings?  I’m gone for most of the weekend teaching  workshops at a women’s conference,  so I stayed in my PJs and reveled in this laid-back slow morning with my boys.  I got dome chores done, they moved from inside screen time, to creating with Legos, then to building a fort outside with cardboard boxes. Our kind of day.
