Journal the Word Large Print NKJV Bible: A Review

This is a Bible Journalers dream!  I truly feel like Christmas came early.  This Bible arrived on my doorstep and I literally put everything else aside to spend some time just enjoying it.

I joined the Bible journaler’s community about a year and a half ago with my first journaling Bible.  I started with this ESV journaling Bible by Crossway, because at the time there were a lot fewer options. (Mine actually has two columns of text, which was something I wanted to do differently with my next Bible as single-column really does allow more space for notes and artistic expression.) Since then I have been dying for a single column Bible, but had resisted. And boy am I glad I did because this one hits two birds with one stone and is both a single column and a large print!

As I began to explore the illustrated faith movement I fell in love with the creativity and personal expression that comes with illustrating your faith. (#illustratedfaith // #biblejournaling)

My first few months of Bible journaling I spent hours and hours on each entry and created true masterpieces. They are like monuments marking things that God spoke to me, things that were changing in my life, and serve as beautiful reminders of what God was doing in my life and heart.

Later, I committed to doing simple black-and-white drawings so that I would find myself diving in more frequently.

And now I take a few of my favorite supplies with me to church and I even journal there.

I love the variety that is in the pages of my Bible! But after spending almost 2 years in my original journaling Bible, and doing all kinds of creating I’m running out of space. So I will be honest I wrote a wish list of things that I would hope for in my next journaling Bible.

This beautiful New King James version, large print, single column journaling Bible is everything I wanted and more!  (Thank you Thomas Nelson!) And to be honest the only thing I might change would be the colors on the cover… That being said the colors, print and high quality fabric is absolutely gorgeous – I just happen to like the burgundy color of the NIV version a tad better. And being a creative those things can matter. 🙂

At first I wasn’t sure about the New King James version, but I felt that way about the English Standard Version when I first got my other Bible too. What I have found is that I love having a variety of versions that I work between and this will be no exception.

All that said this Bible will be my constant companion. I will be using paint, ink, many kinds of pens, stamps and so much more to fill the pages with worship and pieces of personal expression to the Lord.

Often people’s main issue with journaling Bibles has been about the size of the font and let me tell you this large print Bible completely assuages those complaints.  The trade-off is that, yes, the Bible is slightly taller and thicker than if you have regular size font, but the “regular” font in these journaling Bibles tends to be a size 8 point font and I agree that is very small. I love how easy the words are to read on the pages and how much room it gives you to express yourself.

I was dying to share my thoughts about this incredible Bible so that hopefully you will be encouraged to pick up a copy.  I’ll also share a post here in the near future that includes some of my artistic expressions. In the meantime you can see some of my original journal entries I did here in my other ESV Bible, and you can see some that some children did at summer camp when taught to illustrate their faith in this post.

I received a copy of this incredible Bible in exchange for my honest review. But let me tell you I’d be picking one up if I hadn’t been gifted one!

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Bloggers book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
