The Girl Behind the Red Rope: a religious thriller?

Dooms day, cults, religious thriller? Not the typical book you’d see me reading or sharing here, but The Girl Behind the Red Rope had me at the book description (which you can read below) and then the first few pages totally captivated my attention. I both read the hard copy and listened through Audible and neither format disappointed. This father-daughter duo, Ted and Rachelle Dekker, really knocked it out of the park. Both are acclaimed and award winning authors. The narrative flows smoothly yet is intricately woven, the characters are well developed. They are interesting and relatable, relatable in a way you almost don’t what to acknowledge given their circumstances.

As I was reading I was reminded of books like The Giver and Hunger Games, it was oddly intriguing to consider a “compound of people” who are so, dare I say, brainwashed into living such a secluded and limited life. The internal questioning begins immediately and has you waiting with baited breath to see how leaders and the main characters will respond to their questions, the answers they discover and what they are being lead to believe. It challenges religion (versus faith), left me thinking all kinds of things (don’t you love a book that leaves you pondering it for weeks after. It was truly a page turner and I highly recommend it.

As I eluded to, this is not the typical book I select to read, and I have taken a bit of a break from “reviewing” as I was really wanting to pick up some of my “to be read” list. But, I just couldn’t resist this book and I’m so glad I didn’t. It took me out of my reading comfort zone and into a whole new world, and genre. A bit spooky and totally the perfect fall read to cozy up under a blanket and get immersed in. I hope you will consider it!

As long as they stay there, behind the red perimeter.
