Last year I wanted to dive into the Bible more and grow my love for reading the edifying and life changing Words held in it. This year I want to go deeper. I am developing a plan this month for what that will look like and one thing I know for sure is that I’m using several different bibles in different translations for different purposes.
I am so excited to be using the Christian Standard Bible – a notetaking Bible published this Fall by Lifeway and Holman publishers – for my personal study and sermon notetaking. The single-column 8pt. font, large margins (1.75”) and the dark notetaking lines in the margin make it just perfect for this! Not to mention the darling cloth cover is just so pretty and quite durable, I put them through the ringer toting them everywhere!
This translation is new to me and will take some getting used to but according to the publisher it stays as literal in meaning as possible without compromising clarity. That intrigues me and seems very fitting as I use it to study and go deeper this year. I also find myself, since the translation is quite different, reading and understanding things in new ways and doing lots of cross referencing and cross checking with other translations. I’m also working my way through reading the whole Bible (not sure how long this will take me) using the SheReads Truth Bible, which is the New Living Translation and I’m enjoying seeing how these two translations compare.
Here is a page I used for notetaking last week in church. You can see the lines are perfect for notetaking. I will note here that as a Bible Journaler (think “I paint in my Bible” or “I create in my Bible”) this particular style is not quite as optimal. The lines are dark and distinct – perfect for notetaking but not as much for creating. I prefer the fainter lines of journaling Bibles for that purpose so stay tuned as I shar eentries from that Bible as well. The difference in these darker lines in the CSB Notetaking Bible and othe rfainte rlinensin journaling Bibles is distinct.
The Bible also has some simple tools to help use it better including a concordance and Bible reading plan.
The CSB Notetaking Bible is designed to enhance personal Bible study as well as preparation for teaching and preaching. This Bible contains a single-column setting, and abundant space is provided with a 1.75 inch notetaking space on each page to make observations, record insights, raise questions, and suggest to yourself additional exploration of the text.
Features inlcude: Smyth-sewn binding, Presentation page, single-column text, 1.75 inch margins for notetaking, 8-point type, One-year Bible Reading Plan, Concordance, Full-color maps, and more.
The CSB Notetaking Bible features the highly readable, highly reliable text of the Christian Standard Bible (CSB). The CSB stays as literal as possible to the Bible’s original meaning without sacrificing clarity, making it easier to engage with Scripture’s life-transforming message and to share it with others.
