Simple Saturdays

It’s easy to let the hustle and bustle get the better of me, or the nagging to do list, and feeling the need to “get it done”  to creep in and take over. Instead  I am focusing on being present in our lives.  Currently I’m reading a book by Shauna Niequist called “Present Over Perfect” and it couldn’t have come at a better time for me. While I don’t completely see myself in her story,  I don’t think she meant for us to, I am finding the conclusions she came to in this three-year period of her life pertain very much to things I am learning today.

Today as I walked to the farmers market with two of my boys I realized I had parked much further away than I thought… The stroll, made at a 2 1/2 year-old’s pace, slowed us down and made us enjoy. Letting the children pick out things from a local farm,  dreaming of what we can cook,  and leaving with a beautiful bounty of vegetables, I’m feeling refreshed and full.

Pumpkin bread from local sugar pumpkins, potato and leek soup  fresh from the garden , and a book review of “Present Over Perfect” will follow this Simple Saturday.

Any ideas for how I can use these lovely carrots? What your favorite way to eat carrots? I’d love some of your favorite ideas that truly feature the flavor of these local grown beauties.

I’m thinking trips to the farmers market should have made my “hello fall” list of favorite things.
