Hello Fall

I think I’ve said this before but fall is my favorite season! Often when asked if I have a favorite season I say I don’t… And then I say “it’s the change in seasons that is my favorite time.” But if I had to pick only one season it would be fall. I love the crisp air, the days you can wear a lightweight sweater with sandals, and the newness that it brings. I also like that one day is sunny and clear and the next may be rainy and dreary. I like the unpredictability and the change.

I also like that it’s a calmer precursor to  a typically busy Christmas season.  Our holiday season begins in mid October with our annual friendsgiving which often celebrate on or near Canadian Thanksgiving. This is truly my favorite time of year, like a breath of crisp, fall air.

With that I thought I’d share a few of my favorite fall things…

Porch decorating – corn husks from a neighborhood farm, mums, gords and some expression of “thanks.”

Baking – yummy Fall recipes like Charlotte’s Pumpkin Bars, “Here’s to Fall” pumpkin bread, or delectable treats inspired by community leftovers of zucchini, kale, and root vegetables.

Apples – picking, saucing, pressing, and tasting.

Trips – the PNW in the fall doesn’t get any better and we love taking adventures to explore new places and revisit old favorites. This year Rocky Brook Falls makes the list of new spots, we’ll be taking the babe to his first Pumpkin Patch, and exploring the greenway trails.

Reading – my book appetite tends to change with the seasons and I’m excited about the new stack of books I’ve compiled to share with you this fall. Some you definitely won’t want to miss!

Soup – a tried and true soup recipe that already squeezed itself into our meal plan on the first day of Fall and a new one to try from a friend at Bainbridge Boheme.

Parties –  Fall brings a new set of challenges with rainy weather, but also the excitement of gathering with friends and family. Looking forward to several events that are on the books for this fall season. Can you say Pumpkin Party?! Friendsgiving is a tradition we hold close. Oh and SO many evenings around our table with our people.

A 31 Day Challenge – this will be my fourth year embarking on a 31 day challenge in October and this year I’m dreaming up something that relates to my 2016 word, “present.” Any tips or ideas on what you’d like to see me write about?

What are your favorite Fall traditions? What did I miss? I’d love to try your homey and tasty recipes. Do share!
